The Possible Link Between Impotence And PSA Results |
|
PSA or prostate-specific antigen tests are commonly used to help men with Impotence or erectile dysfunction to determine prostate issues. Impotence or Erectile dysfunction is not found with prostate-specific antigen tests, but prostate issues such as prostate cancer or benign prostate issues can be found many times through the PSA. PSA tests are used to test for a protein made by the prostate glands cells, and measures the amount of PSA in the blood stream. PSA is called a biological marker in many cases, also known as tumor markers. Many men that have Impotence or Erectile dysfunction use ED pumps or penis pumps, and may not know that they have any prostate issues if they have not been diagnosed. Diagnosing the underlying conditions that cause ED is important in instances where ED pumps or penis pumps are used without a diagnosis because these conditions could include cancers. This is why the PSA test is used so often in men who complain of ED. The PSA levels are suggested to be tested in men over the age of 50, or any man who has a history of prostate cancers, as the PSA test can help determine recurrences. The PSA test is generally done concurrent with the digital rectal exams to help find prostate cancers. When used together, both the PSA and the rectal exams can help detect prostate cancer, even in men who have no symptoms. There is no normal high or low when it comes to the results of the PSA test. A doctor will look at your personal medical history and the results of the test to see if the results are within ranges for your age and medical conditions. Inflammation and medications such as cancer therapy or hormone therapy can interfere with the results of the PSA test, therefore your doctor will need to take this into consideration. |
