Theories of What May Cause Prostate Cancer

The exact causes of prostate cancer are unclear, but doctors have several theories and ideas about the factors that play into how susceptible a man may be to this cancer. Claiming the lives of over 30,000 men each year, prostate cancer is rapidly becoming a cause of concern for many men over the age of 50, as itís quite rare to show up in men any younger. Itís been proven that older men have at least traces of this cancer in their body, so itís important to know what may cause it.

Prostate cancer is thought to be caused by several factors, some of which can be directly controlled by men and some cannot. One factor that plays into the development of prostate cancer is family history, as a male is more likely to die from this cancer if theyíve had family members in the past diagnosed with it. This is true with a lot of cancers, as family history plays a big part in breast cancers, lung cancers and other forms of cancer.

Prostate cancer can also be directly linked to diet. Itís been shown that men who consume large amounts of food high in animal fats, especially from red meats, are at a higher risk for development of cancer. This is because fat cells stimulate the body to create more hormones, such as testosterone, and higher amounts of hormones in the body have been shown to be the major base cause for prostate cancer development. Overcooked meats produce cancer causing substances that when consumed can lead to the onset and development of cancers. Prostate cancer can also be caused by outside factors, such as where a person works or what sorts of harmful substances a man is exposed to at work, such as metal cadmium, which has been shown to cause a high amount of prostate cancer development.
