What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction or impotence is considered the lack of ability to get or maintain an erection. Erectile dysfunction or Impotence is becoming more common, as more than 30% of men under age 50 and about 55% of men over 50 have Erectile dysfunction or Impotence at some point. It is considered to be within normal ranges to not be able to get an erection up to 20% of the time at any age. Erectile dysfunction is not age related, as this condition can affect men of any age that have went through puberty.

There are many things that can cause Erectile dysfunction; it is not always a matter of simply wanting to have an erection. Physical causes of Erectile dysfunction are all related to the damage of an erection. Diabetes can cause nerve damage and almost half of all men with diabetes will have Erectile dysfunction at some point. Kidney disease causes chemical changes in the body that affect hormones and circulation therefore contributing to Erectile dysfunction. Nerve or brain diseases like MS, Parkinsonís and stroke are also contributors to Erectile dysfunction due to the interruption of the nerve impulses. Cardiovascular diseases account for almost 70% of all physically related Erectile dysfunction cases. Surgery and injury can also cause Erectile dysfunction, as well as venous leaks, drug use and hormone changes.

Treatments for Erectile dysfunction or Impotence includes Cialis, Viagra, Levitra, penile implant surgery, injections and suppositories as well as penis pumps or ED pumps. Penis pumps or ED pumps are the least expensive after the initial purchase of the pump. ED pumps and penis pumps can be used in the privacy of your own home, at your leisure and are the least invasive of all treatments. There are no side effects associated with pumps, and no refill costs. Regardless of medications being taken or physical conditions, penis pumps and ED pumps can be used. Many medications have side effects that prevent some from taking them, while others have precautions so that people with certain health conditions cannot take them. This leaves only surgical and invasive options, many of which men do not want to undergo. In these instances, the pumps are convenient and generally help with regular use.

A pump is made up of a tube, pump and constriction bands. Instructions for the pump purchased are most always included. Should you have any questions about pumps, your physician can go over them with you.
