Why You Should Get a PSA Test if ED is Diagnosed

Erectile dysfunction or impotence is a common condition that affects men of all ages. 1 in 8 men under the age of 50 and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will have erectile dysfunction or Impotence at some point this year alone. Penis pumps and ED pumps are the first treatment offered for ED, and many men who have ED have undergone some type of testing for diagnosis. Your PSA levels can be a great insight into the causes of your ED, especially for those that use ED pumps or penis pumps alone as treatment.

PSA levels are detected through the prostate-specific antigen test or PSA test. The PSA levels in the blood can help a doctor determine if prostate cancer or recurrences of cancer are present, which can be a cause of ED. PSA levels under a 4 are considered normal, yet cancer has still been found in men with these levels due to interferences with the test. Things that can interfere with the test include hormone therapy and some medications, which you should always disclose to your doctor prior to having any blood test completed.

The PSA levels that are above a 4 should be rerun through another lab, as results can vary from place to place. There are no actual definitive high or low levels, as doctors look at your overall health at the time the test is completed as well as your medical history to determine if the PSA levels are high or low for you. When diagnosed with ED, it should be suggested that you have your PSA levels checked. This can help to determine what other conditions may be present that contribute to the ED, as well as help your overall health by finding if your prostate glands are working properly.
